Value-Based Care and Risk-Bearing Groups
Leading groups, such as those represented by America’s Physician Groups (APG), are moving away from "fee-for-service" and toward Value-Based Care (VBC).
Capitated Models: Groups receive a set monthly fee per patient (per member per month) to manage their total health. If the group keeps the patient healthy and out of the hospital, they keep the savings.
Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs): Groups of doctors and hospitals that voluntarily give high-quality, coordinated care to their Medicare patients. By 2026, ACOs are increasingly using predictive AI to identify "high-risk" patients before they require emergency care.
